The Prodigal Son

Luke 15: 11-32

This parable has so many messages to the church and the lost both. Lets look at how this affects the church and us.

I. We see that the son asked his father for his inheritance and he wasted it. God gives us a inheritance as his children and we take it and waste it on riotous living. Don’t think so how about the last time that you watched a movie that brought forth lust? Or how about the last time that you went to the bar and had a few. Now the son realized that his father was a caring man so he reasoned that he had blown his position as his son and would come back as his servant and work for him. He mentions in vs 19 that he is not worth to be his son. Well I will let you in on a secret he is correct, we are not worthy. God sent Jesus to die for us and all he asks is that we live for him and tell others, and we can not even do that! But through Jesus blood we are made worthy to be sons of the King.

II. Now the Father was looking for his return and saw him from a long way off. That is exciting! God loved us called us to be his children and we spat in his face and yet he loved us so much he waits for us to get sick of the world, to get tired of eating the worlds pig swill. Now not only did the Father see him but he ran to greet him. When you repent and turn back to God he will meet you, he gave him his robe, his ring that is his symbol of authority, and shod his feet. Afterwards he had the fatted calf killed and they celebrated! Now notice what else happened, the other brother was jealous and Angry at what the Father did.

III. Now I mentioned that the son felt unworthy, now I will elaborate on that. Remember that all of our great deeds and righteousness are as filthy rags. God is calling and looking down the road.

The world see God as a stern God and will not accept them back, that is false. Gods will is that none should perish but all come to Christ!

IV Then God sees us!

God is looking for our return to him, as we come to the point of getting sick of the worlds lies and the swill. We turn and walk back up the road to home, we admit how we have sinned and are unworthy of God. We repent and ask forgiveness God will do what the story talks about he will give us his robe, ring and shoes, he will throw a party. The bible talks about how every time there is a person saved the angles throw a party.

Friend are you the prodigal, his son or daughter, did you ask the father for salvation and then return to the world? Living in the world and wasting your inheritance? Eating the rotten swill that the Devil feeds you? Do want to come back home and see your Father but you feel that he would have nothing to do with you? Friend he will!

In 1977 NYC was held terrified by a murder spree. A man went around and killed many people all for the Devil, his master. His went by the name of The Son of Sam, his real name is David Berkowitz. He is now a Minister for Christ, leading many to Christ. God Accepts!

In 1969 in LA there was a group who decided that they wanted to cause a revolution so one night they decided to kill 2 families, they were led by a deluded hippie named Charles Manson. This was the Helter Skelter murders, now for the rest of the story. In the family there was a young man who actually did the most of the killings, his name is Charles “Tex “ Watson. He is now a prison evangelist, And there was 2 other women who assisted and enjoyed the killings, they are ministers of the Gospel also. God forgives. He restores the years that the Cancer worm has stolen. Remember that when the thief is caught he will return 7 times the amount that was taken, well the devil is the thief and if you return he will have to restore it. All you need to do is go into the enemies camp and take it back and he is forced to restore it.

Or are you the last type that is mentioned? Are you the Brother who is so angry that the Father will welcome the wasteful son back? There are so many in the churches today who want to sit back and make it a county club, if you have sinned then get away we want no part of you. Or are you jealous that another person or church is moving in Jesus and you are not, the Father is saying to come back to Christ. Jesus dealt with these there called Pharisees. These have a religious attitude and that will send you to hell. It was religion that crucified the Lord. Please remember that the brother also had his blessing but he did not want his brother to have it. Friend repent of this and learn the heart of Christ.

Remember that Jesus was beaten for you, almost to death, a beating that would have killed any normal man. They used a flagrum, that is a whip with many tails that had metal and bone in it that ripped hunks of skin out. Then he had to carry a cross beam that is estimated to weigh 200 lbs, on his shredded back. Then he was publicly humiliated and stripped naked and nailed to the cross. Friend every drop of blood is for you. Please do not waste this inheritance of Christ! God is waiting now at the end of the road, he is calling you to come home and take your place as his child. Do not waste this opportunity, you are held accountable for every wasted moment. Do not ignore the spirit of the Lord will not always strive with man, he has called a day called today for you do not waste it.

God has called a day called today that he may be found and he says to seek him while he may be found.

Please consider the examples that I have mentioned and search you heart and realize that the price has been paid in full, he is standing there with his hands outstretched waiting to see you come up the drive, and there will be a great celebration at that time.
